Thank you for taking the time to check out my website! I hope you've enjoyed my photographs. For those of you that don't know me personally, my name is Jacob Klassen and I am a 23 year old avid photographer based on Vancouver Island.
I've lived on the Island my whole life but more specifically in Parksville and Nanaimo, so I've gotten to explore the island thoroughly while growing up. The first of my camera experiences started with a small mirrorless camera I bought 3 years ago in the summer to video document my trips across the island. What started as a passion for video production, quickly transformed into a love for the art of landscape photography. I bought my first professional full frame camera in the summer of 2016 and still use it to this day.
While I'm not out exploring for my next best shot, I work as a carpenter around the Parksville, Qualicum area. While it is hard to keep a balance between work, photography, and home life, I make it a goal to get out a few times a week and take some pictures. What started out as travelling to typical tourist spots for the generic photo, has turned into day trips and overnight photography journeys across the island.
What photography has taught me is how to find the beauty in things that usually go unnoticed. A year ago you would have never caught me waking up at 4:00 a.m. to catch the first light of the day for a photograph, but now it's something I look forward to each and every weekend. There is no better feeling in the world than travelling to a destination with a goal and vision in mind, and having everything play out perfect.
If there is one thing you should know about me, I am not a camera purist. Post processing is one of my favourite parts about photography as it helps me set my work apart from the rest. While a few of my shots are taken in a single exposure, most will vary between 2-10 separate shots, which I later blend in Photoshop to maximize clarity and sharpness. I am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to my images, so an average shot of mine will take anywhere from 1-4 hours in post processing to create the exact mood and scene that I have envisioned.
